The Chinese central government has reiterated its support for the authorities of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) over the new fugitive bill, which would allow the transfer of suspects wanted in the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Macao.

Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council on Saturday said it "supports, respects and understands" the decision of suspending the fugitive bill, which was announced earlier by Chief Executive of HKSAR Carrie Lam.

Meanwhile, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR made an announcement, confirming the necessity of the amendment work, stressing that the purpose for the amendment is to fix the loopholes in Hong Kong's current legal system and to safeguard Hong Kong's peace and stability.

Noting the riots on Wednesday, the office strongly condemned the violent acts and hailed the devotion of the Hong Kong police in safeguarding the legal system and stability of the Hong Kong society.

It also applauded Lam's great efforts in governing Hong Kong and reaffirmed that the office would continue to firmly support the authorities of Hong Kong in the statement.

Also on Saturday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry made similar remarks by reiterating central government's firm support to the authorities in HKSAR, said the spokesperson Geng Shuang.

Geng noted that the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" and "Hong Kong people administrating Hong Kong" have been effectively implemented since the return of Hong Kong, adding that the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents have been guaranteed.

Geng stressed that no country, organization, or individual has the right to interfere in China's internal affairs, saying China's determination to safeguard its national sovereignty remains unchanged.

Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in HKSAR echoed Geng's remarks, urging relevant countries and individuals to respect China's sovereignty and stop plotting chaos in attempt to undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
